Quarterly Naval Intelligence Summaries, 1954-1965
Collection: Military Intelligence Files: Land, Sea & Air, 1938–1974 Volumes Quarterly Naval Intelligence Summaries, 1954-1965
This volume contains quarterly intelligence summaries compiled by Naval Intelligence on behalf of the Naval Staff and Admiralty during the period 1954-1965. The purpose of these summaries was to keep relevant personnel abreast of the political, diplomatic, and military situation. Although secret, they were intended to be read by all officers and relevant government officials.
Each summary is divided into four sections: section one offers a brief editorial commentary; section two consists of naval intelligence reports; section three comprises political intelligence reports; and section four includes articles on a wide range of subjects thought to be of interest to officers.
Much of the content focuses on the Soviet threat. The nuclear balance of power also receives a great deal of attention due to the perceived importance of the submarine as a secure delivery platform.
Series: ADM 223 (Admiralty: Naval Intelligence Division and Operational Intelligence Centre: Intelligence Reports and Papers).
