Calls for an Independent Scotland, 1853-1973
Collection: Scottish Nationalist Leaflets, 1844–1973 Volumes Calls for an Independent Scotland, 1853-1973
With a strong emphasis on visions for Scotland which involve it ceasing to be a part of the union, these pamphlets cover a wide range of concerns; from the Act of Union itself to rebel songs, culture, the Common Market and devolution. Frustration with England is also a core theme. This is explored through pamphlets addressing the perceived denial of Scottish rights, calls for a Scottish Parliament and the financial relations of Scotland with England. Content upon the Scottish Council of the Labour Party also features here, alongside that from the Scottish Secretariat. Other focal points include the treatment of the Highlands, religion and Scottish education.
