Natural Resources, 1893-1961
Collection: Sierra Leone Under Colonial Rule, in Government Reports, 1893–1961 Volumes Natural Resources, 1893-1961
The earlier items include reports on botany, agriculture in general, and rice production in particular. The establishment of the Sierra Leone Forestry Department was preceded by two major preliminary surveys, by Unwin and Lane Poole, whose reports preface those of the Department. During the period 1922 to 1928, the Agricultural Department was amalgamated with the Forestry Department as the Department of Land and Forests. At a time of falling revenue, in the post World War I recession, it was decided to amalgamate the former Agricultural and Forestry Departments. Similar considerations of revenue and expenditure led to the prolonged delay in establishing both fisheries and veterinary services in Sierra Leone.

- Try a different combination of terms and queries to try and match your result.
- Use 'themes' or 'subjects' directly in your search query, e.g. "19th century colonial administration Africa" - 'Africa' being the broad subject.
- Try using the advanced search facility.
