These papers cover the years from 1793 until 1860, the majority of the correspondence is focused upon the construction of churches, the running of schools, the raising of funds, the costs of missionaries' and the movements of missionaries. Unusual items include a copy of the letters patent by George III appointing Jacob Mountain the first Bishop of Quebec and creating his see there; 'A Charge, Delivered to the Clergy of the Diocese of Quebec by George J. Mountain, D. D., Lord Bishop of Montreal, (Administering that Diocese), at his Primary Visitation, completed in 1838'; details of the SPG's intention to collaborate with the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge and form general diocese-based societies for the furtherance of Christian knowledge; and extracts from Acts of legislature pertaining to the building of links between the churches of Upper and Lower Canada and to the establishment of a 'Bishop's College' are also included.
