Finance 1911-1966
Collection: Malawi Under Colonial Rule, in Government Reports, 1907–1967 Volumes Finance 1911-1966
These Financial Reports and Statements include commonplace elements such as Revenue, Income, and Expenditure; the main development between the earlier and latter reports is the increase in the level of narrative accompanying these records as the years progressed. The Estimates prior to and post the passing of the 1940 Development Act, enable the reader to study the impact of this Act's introduction through comparison. The Audit for 1918-19 includes a reference to a fire at the Audit Office in 1919, it does not state which records were lost in the fire. Reports of the Registrar of Insurance were rendered neccessary by the passing of the 1956 Insurance Act. Those reports' main focus is upon the development of that industry as a whole and the removal of any barriers to it's success. The Customs and Excise reports commence with one report which covers the years 1954-1959, this report also outlines the reason why the department was created.
