Covering the period 1701-1870, the fifty volumes of this Journal record the proceedings of the Society and, for the 18th century, it provides a very complete record. Included are letters from missionaries in the field, either copied in full or as extracts. Some of these letters are duplicated in the Series A and B letterbooks reproduced in the American material in the archives of the USPG, 1635-1812 collection, while others have survived only in this Journal. Each volume has a contemporary index, of which the quality varies a great deal, and modern indexes have been prepared for some of the volumes. Any reports, petitions and other supporting documents referred to in the Journal are set out in full in the appendices.
