Collection: Political Programmes of British Communism, 1944–1990 Volumes The British Road to Socialism, 1988
The “Facing up to the Future” report was published as an initial starting point from which to redraft the “British Road.” It argued that the dominant economic mode had changed and therefore a new party programme was necessary. It sparked lively debate in the party as individuals and groups offered their thoughts on the redrafting process. The “Manifesto for New Times” was published after the “British Road” group decided it was impossible to simply amend the old version. It existed in parallel with, and aimed to inform, the redrafting process of the “British Road”.

Whilst we try our best to extract as much usable and searchable as possible, our primary resource collections have varying levels of available metadata and searchable OCR'd text depending on the nature of the document; please bear this in mind when searching, especially when looking for older resources. We recommend trying the following:
- Try a different combination of terms and queries to try and match your result.
- Use 'themes' or 'subjects' directly in your search query, e.g. "19th century colonial administration Africa" - 'Africa' being the broad subject.
- Try using the advanced search facility.
- Use a broader search and use the filters on the left-hand side to refine your results.
